Introducing Jean Barrett:
Jean Barrett was born in Ft. Worth, raised in Dallas, and graduated from W.T. White High School. He attended the University of Tulsa on a football scholarship where he was a 3 year starter at left offensive tackle earning All Missouri Valley Conference honors.
In January of 1972 Jean surrendered his life to Christ and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Van Buren Arkansas.
In March of the same year Jean married Jane, his college sweetheart, and they will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on March 25th. They have 2 children, John and Jenny. John is the chair of the Political Science department at LeTourneau University, married to Karen, and they have 6 children. Jenny is a work force recruiter for Accounting Principals, is married to Robb Parker and they live in Tulsa.
In May of 1972 Jean graduated with a business marketing degree, was drafted in the second round by the San Francisco 49ers and was selected to play in the College All Star Game against his home town team the Dallas Cowboys.
Jean played 9 years for San Francisco, retiring in May of 1981 when he began a 35 year career in athletic apparel manufacturing which included ownership of 3 sewing factories in Tennessee and then 2 factories in Mexico.
He retired from the apparel industry in 2014 and went to work for First Oklahoma Bank.
Jean has supported and volunteered with the Oklahoma Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes since his playing days and continues to serve on the board of directors for FCA Oklahoma and FCA Northeast Oklahoma.
He was elected to the National FCA Hall of Champions in 2020 and the Oklahoma FCA Hall of Champions in 2021.
He also serves on the board of Oklahoma Baptist Villages and Crossover Community Impact.
For the last 5 years Jean has been President of the Oklahoma Former NFL Players Association and Chairman of the Kickoff Classic event.
Jean and Jane love to spend time in the National Parks, especially the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone.
Jean is a deacon at Tulsa First Baptist Church and teaches an adult Life Group.
